Can You Feel It?
The spark of Awakening at last ignites,
stirring the slumbering skies.
N'er to oblivion we slowly come,
blood and fire on ashen eyes.
Woe to men, the time draws near,
whispers raging on.
And from the night the sound of wings,
an omen of waking dawn.

What is the Awakening?
The 'Cycle of Awakening' is a new fantasy series, with book one, 'When Blood Burns', recently released. This multi-novel series will be set in a familiar, yet unique, fantasy setting. The first novel will follow the story of several key characters as they embark on their own journeys - both sides out to avenge the death of their parents in a conflict going back thousands of years.

Additionally, smaller novels will be published in between major installments and provide a unique insight into the world's history and lore, further building upon current events and, in many cases, filling in gaps and directly answering questions from the main books.

"Echoes of something stirring in the East, far across the Thousand Peaks
a chilling wind runs down the Spine, biting roots and seeds beneath"
- an excerpt from one of the Lost Tomes
Experience the beginning of an all-new fictional saga in the world known as Velasia [Vel-ay-zhi-uh] - a mystical place full of both familiar and unfamiliar fantasy elements. While you might find many familiar, Tolkien-esque races being referenced, in Velasia, nearly all of them have vanished.

Only dragons and humans remain, the prior the only beings who can still wield magic innately. Though humans have no direct magical affinity, they've been studying for years, using their ingenuity to craft devices capable of giving them some semblance of control over it. But has their thirst for magic driven them too far?
In the heart of the human empire lies the Vale. And on the outskirts of the Vale sits Eastend, a village bordering a massive mountain range named the Thousand Peaks. Here, a group of warriors known as the "Order of Scales", within whose blood flows a small fragment of the dragons' power, watches over the lands beyond the Wall. Though they cannot wield magic, the blood gives them extra-human abilities, and it is with these abilities they've stood as the first line of defense against their ancient and powerful foe.

But with the elder dragons seeming an all but forgotten threat, the world has moved on, leaving the Order and the lands beyond the Wall to fend for themselves against the threat of lesser dragons who occasionally roam into human lands from beyond the mountains.
And it is in this part of the world where our story begins...

Have a Question?
What's special about the dragons in Velasia? In Velasia, dragons are more than mere beasts. In fact, these dragons are entirely sentient and have their own culture, language, and magic. They often take on a humanoid form out a necessity to "recharge" their magical batteries, which are innate to all those with dragon blood. It is the primary reason why some are hunted for it. It is said that if a dragon pushes the limits on their magic consumption while in their dragon form, they risk succumbing to the beast within and losing all control.
What magic systems do you have in your books? The magic in Velasia is complex. It's a bit of a mix between both soft and hard magic systems. On one hand, dragons are inherently magic and drinking their blood gives some humans special abilities, like speed, strength, a longer lifespan, and more. And, in rare cases, it gives supernatural abilities, which are explored in the books. On the other hand, the magic that dragons can tap into is vast and untamed. Some of it is fairly straightforward and recognizable for fantasy fans - elemental magic, mind magic, transfusion, and etc. There are also other, more forbidden magics that the dragons have knowledge of. These dark magics are something even they hesitate to control because of how dangerous they are.
How long will the series be? The Cycle of Awakening series is currently slated to be five books long with one novella between each novel. Each novel will move us forward in the current timeline of events, while each novella will move further into Velasia's past to help us uncover key pieces to the origin of the "true" evil lurking on the horizon, while also providing additional backstory for what we encounter in each book.
What's the recommended reading order? As it stands right now, it's pretty straightforward, but there are two recommendations. The first novella, Dawn of the Queen, is essentially a prequel novella. However, my general suggestion is to read it after reading When Blood Burns to keep a bit of the mystery. It was written so it wouldn't spoil anything, so you should be fine either way. From there, you'll read them in published order. Next will be A Flame to Guide Them, and then When Eyes Behold.
